Mike Shaw - Steve Nash Youth Basketball Alberta Regional Coordinator
NSD Basketball is proud to announce the launch of Steve Nash Youth Basketball in conjunction with Canada Basketball, Basketball Alberta and the Steve Nash Foundation. Steve Nash Youth Basketball is a developmental program designed for boys and girls aged five to 13. The program is designed to teach basketball fundamentals and further expose children to physical activity in a fun and positive environment.
"NSD Basketball is pleased to work alongside Basketball Alberta & Canada Basketball in the delivery of Steve Nash Youth Basketball in Calgary and throughout Alberta" commented Mark Hogan, Director of NSD Basketball.
Steve Nash Youth Basketball is targeted towards community based recreational groups and facilities, schools and any other individuals who want to give children the opportunity to play basketball. The program will be supported by an operations manual with step-by-step instructions designed to assist with the establishment and administration of a SNYB program in their local community. Steve Nash Youth Basketball is flexible in nature to allow local organizers to adapt the program to their unique situation while following the principles and spirit of the program.
"Canada Basketball is proud to partner with Basketball Alberta and NSD Basketball in the launch of Steve Nash Youth Basketball," said Ron Yeung, Manager of Steve Nash Youth Basketball. "This program will provide a great developmental pathway for kids while promoting the importance of youth basketball as a vehicle to build character, discipline, self-esteem and sportsmanship. We are looking for interested organizers to come forward and help us grow the game at the grassroots level across Canada."
The Steve Nash Youth Basketball program will also include a coach's handbook containing lesson plans and drills, a parent's guide to help ensure children have a positive basketball experience, and an officials' manual that addresses rules for age appropriate modification. Team parity and co-operation are highly stressed in the program giving all participants a chance to play and develop their skills. The program will become the first step in Canada Basketball's player development pathway as the organization moves towards its goals of becoming a world basketball leader.
