Sean Hope-Ross
Director of Strength and Conditioning

Sean was the head trainer and Director of Acceleration and Sport Training programs for Notre Dame College between September 1999 and April 2002. In April 2002, Sean returned to his hometown of Calgary to join James Gattinger and the Acceleration program at Father David Bauer. Sean is currently the Director of Strength and Conditioning and All Training for National Sports Development. Current and past clients include Ryan Getzlaf (Anaheim Ducks), Rhett Warrener (Calgary Flames), Marcus Nilson (Calgary Flames), Derek Morris (Phoenix Coyotes), Jason Wiemer (New Jersey Devils), Brad Isbister (Vancouver Canucks), Jason Labarbera (L.A. Kings), Jason Smith (Philadelphia Flyers), Mike Commodore (Ottawa Senators), Clarke Wilm (Helsinki,Finland), Ryan Stone (Pittsburgh Penguins), Jeff Schultz (Washington Capitals), Kris Russell (Columbus Blue Jackets), Andy Rogers (Tampa Bay Lightning), Justin Pogge (Toronto Maple Leafs), Devan Dubnyk (Edmonton Oilers), and literally thousands more Pro, NCAA, Junior, and minor hockey level players. Sean has been the strength and conditioning consultant for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League for the past 6 years , consultant to Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, the EDGE School, Tanbridge Academy, and to several Alberta Major Junior and Junior A Hockey League teams, Alberta and Saskatchewan Midget AAA teams, and hundreds of minor hockey and community level teams.




Steve Brandon
Sports Performance Specialist

Steve Brandon has been a strength coach for 7 years, the past 3 with NSD. He has worked with hockey players at all levels, including the NHL, WHL, College, Jr.A, and all levels of minor hockey. Steve also trains many soccer and basketball teams at NSD, as well as elite level figure skaters. He has spent years researching North American and European strength and conditioning journals (German/Bulgarian/Hungarian) , and studying the practices of other world class strength coaches and scientists to optimize his training methods. Steve has worked with many sport supplement companies around the world for the past 6 years to stay on the cutting edge of the latest research , so he can optimize ways for his athletes to stay leaner, increase muscle hypertrophy , recover faster, and increase overall performance.




Jeff Hope-Ross
Sports Performance Specialist

Jeff started at NSD in 2004 and has been in the fitness industry for over 8 years. He has extensive experience training elite level hockey players of all ages from Atom to the NHL. In addition to hockey players Jeff also has a client base that ranges from general fitness clients to NCAA baseball athletes. Besides personal training, Jeff has trained many teams to league championships, the latest being the Alberta Provincial Champions, Calgary AAA Midget Buffaloes.

Jeff has a strong hockey background, having played junior hockey in BC and Halifax, and he was a Junior A first team all-star for the famed Athol Murray College of Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox, Saskatchewan.




Laura Malinowski
Soccer Strength & Conditioning Specialist

Laura grew up in Calgary, Alberta and participated in a variety of sports from a young age, including basketball, volleyball, tennis and figure skating. In minor soccer Laura played for Chinook division one teams. After high school, she attended Mount Royal College to study Kinesiology, where she was a member of the Women's Soccer team. In her first season she was named Rookie of the Year and in her second season she was named captain and nominated for Athlete of the Year. Laura transferred to the University of Waterloo and graduated in 2007 with an Honors Bachelor of Science Degree is Kinesiology. Again, she was a member of the varsity soccer team and was awarded Rookie of the Year in her first year and captain in her final season, in addition to being named an Outstanding Graduating Senior Athlete. During her final year as a student, Laura was the assistant coach of the Women's Varsity Soccer team. After graduating she moved back to Calgary and began working at National Sports Development as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. Laura also runs technical sessions for the NSD Soccer Club and continues to play soccer, currently playing in the Alberta Major League.
