Mark Hogan is the founder of STARS Basketball, the Director of NSD Basketball and the Head Coach for the U19 Girls and Elite Team. Hogan played high school basketball at Crocus Plains High School in Brandon, Manitoba, and continued on to coach high school girls and boys basketball in the same city while teaching public school for 7 years. Hogan played for the Brandon University Bobcats while earning his Bachelor of General Studies and Education degree from Brandon University with a major in Physical Education, also attaining his Post Baccalaureate in Educational Psychology from the University of Manitoba with an emphasis in Counseling and Sports Psychology. Hogan was entered into the Brandon University Hall of Fame in 1997 as a 1979-80 team member. Hogan has coached at the college level at both Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, Manitoba, and Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta in addition to assistant coaching at both the University of Manitoba and the University of Calgary with the Dinos men's program. Hogan founded the STARS Basketball Association in 1994 after migrating west to Calgary, Alberta, In 2003, 2004 & 2005 Hogan was assigned as a member of Canada Basketball's Task Force designed to look at the current state of basketball in Canada and to assist in providing recommendations for a more cohesive, effective and comprehensive basketball development system, which he pursued with utmost success. From 2003-05 Hogan was an Assistant Coach with Canada Basketball's Centre for Performance program in Alberta. In 2005 Hogan founded the STARS Basketball Club, with 18 teams in 2006 it became the largest club program in western Canada in its inaugural season of play. In 2006 Hogan was named the Director of NSD STARS Basketball after a partnering STARS Basketball and with NSD (National Sports Development). Hogan is a fully certified NCCP Level III coach (CC# 165 163) and has recently begun pursuing his NCCP Level IV certification. An NCCP Master Course Conductor, Hogan is fluent with teaching Level I, Level II & Level III NCCP basketball technical courses and more. Mark Hogan will act as head coach for the U19 girls team within the NSD Basketball Club and looks forward to working with the Women's Elite Team in their sophomore season who will travel to Spain this coming August to compete and train internationally.

Savannah Magnussen

Currently the Director of Basketball Administration with NSD STARS Basketball, Savannah Magnussen began her love of the game of basketball as a young player in the STARS Basketball Program in grade 3. Playing community, school and club basketball Magnussen went on to have several rewarding experiences having the opportunity to travel through basketball playing in cities across the nation including Vancouver, Montreal, the Maritimes, Toronto and more. After attending the Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks, Alberta, winning a Provincial Championship banner, she continued to play at a competitive level first with the Mount Royal College Cougars in Calgary, Alberta then at Lethbridge Community College in Lethbridge, Alberta while studying in the field of criminology. Magnussen has had other such opportunities in the game of basketball to travel and play in such places as Las Vegas, San Diego, Oregon, Hawaii, Cuba and more. Savannah has coached players ages 5 - 17 with STARS Basketball for more than 6 years including youth programs as well as having coached an U17 girls team with NSD Basketball Club for two seasons - during the 2006 season taking her team to the World Youth Basketball Tournament in Kona, Hawaii. Magnussen is currently an assistant coach with Basketball Alberta's Regional Training Center and is looking forward to coaching for another season with NSD Basketball Club with the U19 girls. As the Director of Basketball Administration for NSD Basketball she strives to offer players opportunities that will create success for them on the court and experiences that will enrich their sporting careers.

Mike Shaw

Mike Shaw has coached basketball for the past fifteen years in British Columbia and Alberta. He is a Level 2 NCCP certified coach and is finishing his Level 3 certification. Shaw began his coaching career in Nelson, B.C. at his home high school (LV Rogers) where he was an assistant coach for two and a half years. He helped develop players and teams that competed in the B.C. High School Provincials from 1992 to 1995. Shaw moved to the West Coast to continue his coaching career at St. Michael's University School in Victoria B.C. This is the same high school that produced Steve Nash, professional basketball player of the NBA's Phoenix Suns. At St. Michael's, Mike learned under legendary coaches Ted Anderson, Bill Greenwell, and Ian Hyde-Lay. While at St. Michael's Shaw helped coach the Junior boy's team to the British Columbia Provincial Championship in 1997. In 1999 he helped the senior boy's team to the final four of the B.C. High School Championships. During the summers Shaw worked with the Vancouver Island U15 Boys Summer games team that won a gold medal in 1996 at the B.C. Summer Games. Shaw coached Basketball B.C.'s South Vancouver Island U15 Boys development team in 1998. In the summer of 1999 Shaw moved to Alberta and began his college coaching career at Prairie Bible College with the women's team and assisted the high school girl's team. He built a college program in three years and had his team compete in the 2002 ACAC playoffs, the first time in school history. In 2002 he became the Athletic Director of Prairie High School and Head Coach of the High School girls program that medaled four times at zone championships and medaled twice at provincials. In the off-season Shaw established the Golden Hills Girls Basketball Club for off-season skill development and competitive training for four summers from 2000 to 2003. In the summer of 2004 to 2007 Shaw assisted legendary high school basketball coach Brian Utley at Chestermere High School with the Alberta Shooting Stars Club Basketball Program. In the summer of 2007 Shaw was offered a position to help launch the Steve Nash Youth Basketball program province-wide with National Sports Development (NSD) in Calgary. In January 2008 Shaw became Regional Director for the Steve Nash Youth Basketball Program in Alberta.
