- Is club basketball for beginners or advanced players?
Club basketball is for advanced players and players who have demonstrated an ability to exceed in the game of basketball athletically and skill-wise.
- How does Steve Nash Youth Basketball (SNYB) compare to STARS Basketball?
SNYB is very similar to STARS Basketball in that it emphasizes entry-level basketball activities. SNYB was developed by some of Canada's finest basketball minds and athlete development experts and offers tremendous professional resources to assist in all aspects of program coordination and delivery. STARS Basketball has been replaced by SNYB.
- How many evenings a week does the club program run?
Most teams will operate 4 evenings per week for April and May. There will be 2 on court practices, 1 dry-land session and 1 spring league game in these 2 months. June and July is primarily 2-3 evenings per week. Dry-land training and spring league games end in late May or early June.
- How many tournaments will club teams attend during the season?
Most teams will attend at least 5 tournaments from April to July. Several teams will attend 7 tournaments and a couple of ambitious teams may attend up to 9-10 tournaments.
- How is NSD Club Basketball different from other club programs in Calgary?
NSD is unique in that they are the only club basketball organization in all of Canada with their own training facility-that being a 52,000 square foot best-in-class training venue. The High Performance Training (HPT) offered at NSD is second to none and regarded as one of the best in the nation-several professional athletes (NHL, CFL & NLL) call NSD home during their respective off-seasons. NSD Basketball coaches are also highly regarded within the basketball community and recognized as consummate professionals.
- Where do I find current information on NSD programs on the web site? Some web info is outdated.
www.nsd365.com is the web address for NSD programs. This site will be updated on a regular basis to stay in tune with the basketball community.
- How many days per week does Steve Nash Youth Basketball run and for how many weeks?
SNYB runs for 9 weeks, 2 hours per evening, once per week for a total of 18 hours.
- Do you have online registration for NSD and SNYB programs?
Online registration is soon to be launched at NSD-stay tuned.
- What is the NSD Basketball Academy all about? How is it different from your other programs?
The NSD Basketball Academy focuses on skill development with on court training and athlete development with dry-land training. There are no teams in the Academy-it is strictly development based.
- Who are your coaches in NSD Basketball & SNYB?

- Are the coaches trained or certified? Do they require police checks?
All NSD coaches are either certified, working on certification or trained by noted and professional coaches. A police check is required by NSD coaches.
- What age / skill level are your programs targeted towards?
SNYB targets ages 5 to 13. Club Basketball targets ages 11 to adult. Summer camps target ages 5 to 17. NBA 3on3 targets ages 10 to adult. NSD Holiday 3on3 targets ages 5 to 17.
- How do I get involved as a parent volunteer coach in SNYB?

- What is required to become a coach in the NSD Basketball program?
Contact Mark Hogan at NSD to indicate your interest to coach in NSD Basketball programs. An appointment will then be arranged to set up an interview to discuss NSD programming and whether or not your coaching interests match.
- What forms of payments do you accept?
Credit card, cheque or cash are accepted methods of payment. If financial assistance is required, please contact Kids Sport to determine whether you qualify or not.
- Do you accept a monthly payment plan?
In some instances a monthly payment plan can be arranged.
- There are certain times throughout the year when return calls seem to be tardy. What is the reason for this?
At certain periods of time NSD Basketball experiences unusually high volumes of calls and e-mails resulting in a short delay in returning the said call or e-mail. The NSD Basketball office staff are committed to return messages as soon as possible and are sensitive to the fact that certain returned messages are slower than anticipated. Measures are now in place to help rectify this situation.
- Can I drop off payment at NSD or should I mail-in payment?
Payment can be either dropped off at NSD on Flint Road SE or can be mailed to the same address.
- Can I register early for an NSD or SNYB program?
In most instances, yes. In some instances, a program must first be set up in the computer system before registrations can be accepted. The NSD Basketball staff are prepared to begin a file for early registrants should the latter occur.
- How do I start a SNYB program in my community?
To begin a SNYB in your community contact Mike Shaw at or call 403.201.8788.
- Does the tournament still operate if it’s raining?
Yes, the tournament will run as schedule – NO MATTER WHAT; rain, snow, or shine.
- Can I get a refund (for any reason).
No.
- When and/or where is team check-in?
NBA 3on3 team check-in is Friday between 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm @ the Chinook Soccer Center (H3) on Currie Barracks. You can find a map online at www.nba.com/3on3.
- Can I still register for the NBA 3on3?
No, the reg. deadline was Tuesday @ midnight. We are no longer accepting reg’s.
- Can I add or change a player?
Yes, up to a maximum 5 players per team. There is an additional cost for additional players; the difference MUST be paid in cash @ check-in.
- Can I change my division?
No.
- What is the height of the hoop for younger players.
Ages 12 & under = 8’. 13 & over = standard.
- When does the tournament start?
Saturday. You will receive your team schedule upon check-in.
- If I am from out of town, can I check-in on Saturday?
Yes, any teams checking-in must be on-site no later than 8:30 am to check-in on Saturday at the scoreboard tent.
- Do you know when my first game is?
No. You will receive your schedule upon check-in on Friday between 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Chinook Soccer Center (H3).
